Rooney already misses the first game of the tournament, held in Poland and Ukraine next year through suspension and once UEFA take a further look at the incident that ban could be extended.
Plenty of England players will now be eyeing up their chance to impress Capello if given the nod including, Defoe, Zamora, Wellbeck Bent and Carroll.
Sturridge, who has been impressing for Chelsea of late could also be in for a chance to shine.
